Description
This abstract sosaku-hanga print takes cloud formations as its subject, rendering atmospheric mass through Fukita's characteristic layering of color and texture. Rather than depicting clouds naturalistically, the composition likely resolves into stacked or drifting tonal fields — dense passages of pigment offset by areas of open washi grain. Fukita's training at Tama College of Fine Arts informed his technical rigor, and his cloud imagery characteristically exploits the woodblock's capacity for both hard-edged registration and soft bokashi gradation. The interplay between saturated color zones and the texture of the carved block surface lends the work a tactile dimension that differentiates it from Western abstract prints of the same postwar period.
