Description
Spring is among the most generative seasonal subjects in Japanese printmaking, and Fukita engages it through the sosaku-hanga approach: personal interpretation rather than conventional motif. Rather than depicting sakura blossoms in a literal mode, Fukita's Spring likely renders the season as color — warm pinks, pale greens, and creamy whites — organized into layered horizontal or scattered fields that evoke growth and diffuse light without depicting specific botanical forms. The expansive washi ground may remain partially visible as a warm neutral, integrating the support into the composition. The print's classification as landscape suggests a spatial orientation — horizon, ground plane, sky — even if these elements are strongly abstracted from naturalistic representation.
