Description
A second print carrying the title 'White Tree B' suggests either a later edition of the same design or a closely related variant distinguished by format, coloring, or scale. In Fujita's practice, revisiting a titled subject across sessions was a consistent method for refining the formal relationship between the white tree form and its ground. Differences between this and the primary 'White Tree B' may be subtle — a shift in the surrounding atmosphere's warmth, a change in the tree's proportion within the picture plane, or variation in the bokashi treatment of sky or earth. The print exemplifies the sosaku-hanga artist's role as sole author of every stage of production: concept, drawing, carving, and printing.
