Description
Enoshima, the small island connected to the Kanagawa coast by a sand spit, has been a popular destination since the Edo period — its shrine, sea caves, and views of Mount Fuji making it one of the great scenic spots near Tokyo. Kitaoka captures the island's evening mood: the lights beginning to appear along its narrow commercial streets, the water surrounding the island taking on the colors of dusk, the distinctive silhouette of the island itself — topped by its lighthouse and shrine — settling into the dimming sky.
