Blue Shadow

"Blue Shadow" (1995) by Gen Yamanaka, a reverse painting on glass, is an abstract composition of soft-edged, cloud-like forms in teal and deep indigo blue set against a horizontally banded ground that shifts from pale blue-green at the top to grey and taupe at the bottom. Two irregular blue-teal masses sit above two narrower, elongated indigo bands near the base, with a small signature at the lower right; there are no figures or recognizable setting, only flat planes of color. The palette is cool and muted, giving the piece a quiet, still mood.
