The Shape of Yellow

The Shape of Yellow (1992), a reverse painting on glass by Gen Yamanaka, presents a small abstract composition divided into two square fields. The left field, pale teal-green, contains a darker blue-gray square bounded by a loose, scrawled black outline with a single thin yellow vertical mark near its center; the right field is gray-blue overlaid with dense vertical brown streaks resembling dragged or scratched brushwork.
