Life Force

*Life Force* (2015), acrylic and oil on canvas by Go Yayanagi, is a flat, hard-edged abstract composition in bright blue, black-and-white zebra stripe, green, coral pink, mustard yellow, and magenta. A pink limb-like form bends upward at the center against a large blue oval marked with dark cloud-like patches, flanked by a green scalloped shape and a small pink vessel with a yellow oval opening; the lower portion is dominated by curving black-and-white striped forms, one culminating in a stylized golden-brown face with a single dark eye. The overall mood is bold and graphic, built from smooth, saturated color fields with no shading or visible brushwork.
