Description

Spring Awakening (1965) is a vertically symmetrical abstract composition centered on a solid green ground, built from concentric rings, spiraling loops, and radiating lines in red, blue, white, yellow, and black. Two large eye-like forms with radiating lashes flank a central totem-like column that culminates in a forked, ear-like shape at top and splits into curved, red-lined lobes at the bottom, with clusters of small colored dots scattered through the lower half. Go Yayanagi's oil-on-panel work is signed and dated "-65" in the lower center.
