Hide Kawanishi was a Kobe-based sosaku-hanga printmaker whose vivid, color-saturated woodblock prints captured the energy of Japan's most cosmopolitan port city — its harbor crowded with international shipping, its hillside neighborhoods, and its vibrant urban life.
