$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Playground (without number or parenthetical) represents one of Hagiwara's treatments of the childhood play environment in its most generalized form — the space of play rather than a specific playground configuration. The [sosaku-hanga](/glossary/sosaku-hanga) tradition's emphasis on the artist's personal vision over documentary accuracy gave Hagiwara permission to render the playground as felt experience rather than observed fact, the spatial qualities of openness, freedom, and structured risk that define the best play environments translated into the abstract visual language of his carved surfaces.
