$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Soil (9): Town in the Earth (1960) extends Hagiwara's Soil series into the built environment — the human settlement as it exists in and through the ground beneath it, foundations sunk into earth, water systems drawing from it, the entire urban infrastructure dependent on the soil that underlies and enables it. The "Town in the Earth" subtitle suggests a composition that renders the urban landscape from below as much as from above, the city's relationship with its geological substrate made visible. The urban-scenes tag indicates human habitation is specifically present.
