$200–$1,500. Common subjects: $200–$500. Key value factors: Takahashi's prints are modestly priced. Well-preserved examples with strong design are most valued.
A woodblock print titled "Modoribashi," referencing the Modoribashi, or "Returning Bridge," in Kyoto, a site steeped in legend and supernatural lore. The bridge is famous in Noh and kabuki theater as the place where the warrior Watanabe no Tsuna encountered a demon disguised as a beautiful woman. Takahashi Hiromitsu draws on this rich theatrical and literary tradition, translating a narrative charged with danger and the uncanny into the graphic language of carved wood and printed pigment. The bold uppercase lettering of the title suggests a dramatic, poster-like intensity in the print itself.
