Description
Hanazakari, meaning the peak of cherry blossom season, depicts an avenue of fully bloomed cherry trees rendered in Yoshida's distinctly luminous palette. This variant likely emphasizes a different atmospheric condition or time of day from related compositions in the series, perhaps capturing the diffuse, overcast light that softens blossom masses into dense clouds of pale pink and white. Yoshida used multiple impression passes to build the translucency of cherry blossoms, with delicate pink and white pigments applied over light ground tones on dampened washi. The avenue format, with trees receding into a perspectival middle distance, reflects Yoshida's Western-trained compositional sensibility applied to a quintessentially Japanese seasonal subject. This oban-format print belongs to a group of cherry blossom compositions that rank among his most formally refined seasonal works.
