Description
Catalogued under an institutional sequence number rather than a descriptive title, this woodblock print reflects Yoshida's mature shin-hanga output, characterized by meticulous keyblock draftsmanship and layered color application on dampened washi. Yoshida applied Western compositional principles — particularly his training in atmospheric perspective — to subjects that ranged from Japanese temple precincts to European alpine lakes and North American wilderness. His prints were published through Watanabe Shozaburo's network but many were also self-published, with Yoshida exercising unusual control over carving and printing quality. The integration of fine gradations, often achieved through repeated bokashi applications, distinguishes his impressions from those of contemporaries working in a more purely traditional manner.
