Description
Without a recorded subject title, this numbered Yoshida print draws from his sustained engagement with the Japanese domestic landscape. Yoshida traveled extensively within Japan, producing prints of celebrated sites including Mount Fuji, the Japan Alps, Nikko, and the Inland Sea, alongside less-visited rural and coastal scenes. His domestic landscape prints blend the meisho-e tradition of depicting famous places with the atmospheric and perspectival priorities of Western plein-air painting. Characteristic features include soft color gradations across sky and water achieved through bokashi, architectural or natural focal points positioned along Western perspectival axes, and layered ink applications that build tonal depth across multiple block passes. The shin-hanga model under which Yoshida initially worked divided labor between artist, carver, printer, and publisher — though Yoshida later consolidated these roles within his family workshop to maintain tighter control over the technical quality of each impression.
