$500–$5,000. Common prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Tajima's powerful abstract prints have appeal among both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
"Sprout" takes the act of germination — the first emergence of a new plant from the soil — as its subject, rendering that moment of potential and becoming through Tajima's abstracting woodblock language. The sprout is among nature's most optimistic subjects: life asserting itself from apparent nothingness. In Tajima's hands this becomes a compositional argument about emergence, about the moment when form appears from the undifferentiated ground, a moment parallel to the act of printmaking itself.
