Description
An eighteenth untitled print by Hiyoshi Mamoru. His documentary approach to woodblock printmaking placed him in the tradition of artists who used the medium to observe and preserve social reality rather than to create aesthetic objects divorced from social context. This documentary impulse — the desire to record how people actually live, work, and gather — gives his prints a double value: as art objects with compositional and technical interest, and as historical documents of a world in rapid transformation.
