A twenty-first untitled work by Hiyoshi Mamoru. His printmaking practice — focused on the social and material textures of Japanese and Korean traditional life — represents one of the less celebrated but no less valuable aspects of Showa-era woodblock production. Where more famous contemporaries pursued the scenic landscapes and famous places that attracted international collectors, Hiyoshi Mamoru directed his attention toward the ordinary people and everyday activities that constituted the actual substance of Japanese life.
