Description
An untitled Nishimura Hodo woodblock print. His active period in the 1930s coincided with the peak of the shin-hanga movement, when publishers like Watanabe Shōzaburō were commissioning refined woodblock prints from a generation of artists trained in both Japanese and Western aesthetic traditions. Hodo's place in this tradition is represented by both his titled masterworks and the untitled prints that document his broader output.
