Untitled (hodo-nishimura)

An untitled woodblock print from Hodo's shin-hanga output. His bijin-ga prints depicted women in traditional settings — by the engawa, in gardens, near architectural landmarks — while his kachō-ga work engaged the seasonal subjects of the Japanese flower calendar. These two streams of his practice shared an attention to atmosphere, season, and the quiet beauty of traditional Japanese life that gave his prints their characteristic decorative coherence.
