Description
"Orchid 2" is a shin-hanga print by Ikeda Zuigetsu, created during the Taisho-Showa. This work demonstrates the artist's distinctive approach to kacho-e and birds through the medium of Japanese woodblock printing.
Ikeda Zuigetsu produced kacho-e woodblock prints during the height of the shin-hanga revival, specializing in bird-and-flower compositions that drew on centuries of Japanese naturalist painting tradition while exploiting the refined color-printing techniques of the Watanabe workshop.
This print represents Ikeda Zuigetsu's contribution to the shin-hanga tradition during the Taisho-Showa. As with all works by this artist, it reflects both individual artistic vision and the broader cultural moment in which it was created. For collectors and admirers of Japanese printmaking, it offers a window into the sophisticated aesthetic world that produced some of the most beloved images in art history.
