Description
The eighth coleus print in Taisui's series shows the artist and the Sakai-Kawaguchi workshop sustaining a high level of technical precision across an extended sequence. At this late point in the series, compositional variation likely involves subtle shifts — the number of leaves in frame, the angle of the stem, or the relative weight of warm versus cool tones in the leaf patterning. Coleus leaves in late summer or autumn can shift toward deeper purples and bronzes, and this variant may reflect that tonal register. The print would have required the same multi-block process used throughout the series — separate impressions for each color zone, background wash, and keyblock outlines — all registered on quality washi using the kento alignment system standard in shin-hanga production.
