Description

A woman with dark hair pinned up and a small blue-green ornament sits with one bare foot drawn up onto her knee, bending forward to clip her toenails with a small tool held in both hands. She wears a white kimono patterned with blue star and lattice motifs, loosely open to expose her shoulder and chest, over a bright orange-red under-robe; her lowered eyes and red lips stand out against pale skin, set against a plain tan background with vertical Japanese text at the upper right. Ito Shinsui, "Clipping Nails," 1936, woodblock print.
