Combining landscape, moonlight, night scene, and animal subjects, this print operates squarely within the [meisho-e](/glossary/meisho-e) and [kacho-e](/glossary/kacho-e) traditions of the Edo period. The fox (kitsune) is one of the most charged animals in Japanese iconography, associated with transformation, Inari worship, and liminal night spaces. Henry situates the fox under a full or partial moon — a compositional pairing with deep roots in both Hiroshige's night landscapes and Yoshitoshi's moon series — rendered in the cool, desaturated palette characteristic of woodblock night scenes. Whether the image references Okami or another fox-centered game, its visual grammar is thoroughly grounded in classical Japanese printmaking convention.
