$1,500–$6,000. Smaller works: $1,500–$2,500. Key value factors: Rome's contemplative abstract prints bridge Eastern and Western aesthetics. Limited editions hold value.
Stillness and inward attention define this oban mokuhanga print, whose title points toward a state of contemplative calm. Joshua Rome uses water-based pigments on washi paper to build an image that may incorporate reflected surfaces, water, or meditative space, rendered through the layered transparency that the mokuhanga process makes possible. Each successive color pass adds depth without opacity, creating a visual field that rewards slow looking, the same sustained attention the title names. The matte surface of washi paper absorbs light softly, producing an image luminosity that glows from within rather than reflecting off the surface. Rome's years of practicing mokuhanga in Japan have immersed him in a culture where quiet reflection is not merely a personal preference but a cultivated aesthetic value with deep roots in Zen, tea ceremony, and garden design.
