Description
Water Customs III continues the seascape series printed on Somerset Soft White 270 gr paper, the third in a sequence exploring recurrent or habitual water observations. The use of a consistent substrate across the Water Customs series — Somerset Soft White rather than the heavier Hahnemühle used in the landscape prints — suggests the series was conceived as a unified body, the paper choice contributing to a shared tonal warmth and surface delicacy across all four known works. In intaglio printmaking, printing a related series on identical paper allows subtle compositional variations across prints to read as genuine differences in subject rather than artifacts of substrate change. Water Customs III may vary in its depicted conditions of wave height, light quality, or compositional horizon placement from its siblings, each print functioning as a discrete observation within a sustained investigation of the sea's surface.
