Description
The skyline of Florence at dusk, the city's famous landmarks — the Duomo's dome, the Palazzo Vecchio's tower, the dark cypresses of Piazzale Michelangelo — reduced to their essential silhouettes against an evening sky. Sekino's European prints from his 1959 travels capture the cities he visited as graphic forms first and cultural symbols second, and Florence's skyline provided ideal material for the strong-contour approach his woodblock vocabulary favored.
