Ishiyakushi: Fall Colors

The station of Ishiyakushi in Mie Prefecture appears during autumn, when the maples and ginkgos along the Tokaido turned the route's borders into a corridor of red, orange, and yellow. Sekino's fall-color compositions use the woodblock medium's ability to layer transparent color washes to build up the complex warm palette of autumn foliage, the seasonal transformation providing maximum visual contrast with the muted greens and greys of summer and winter station prints.
