Description
The station of Numazu at the foot of the Hakone mountains in Shizuoka Prefecture appears in this Tokaido print, the town defined by its position on the Kano River and its proximity to both the sea and the imposing mountain barrier ahead. Numazu's post-town had the particular quality of a departure point: travelers rested here before tackling Hakone, or arrived exhausted after descending from it.
