The Souvenirs of Travel series (First, Second, and Third Series, 1919–1922) represents Hasui's earliest major publishing relationship with Watanabe Shozaburo. Pre-earthquake impressions (before September 1923) are the rarest — the Kanto Earthquake destroyed Watanabe's workshop and most original blocks, making surviving early round-seal impressions exceptionally valuable at $2,500–$8,000. Post-earthquake editions were printed from recut blocks and trade at lower prices.
The Hori River at Obama, from the Souvenirs of Travel, First Series published in 1920, depicts the Horikawa — the canal that flows through the Obama fishing port in Fukui Prefecture on the Wakasa Bay coast — with its traditional boatyards and wooden fishing vessels moored along the embankment. Obama (whose name means "little beach") was the principal port for delivering fresh fish and seafood to the imperial capital of Kyoto via the so-called "mackerel highway," and its canal district reflected this marine commerce in its working waterfront architecture. The First Series' inclusion of Obama documented the Sea of Japan coast's active fishing culture.
