Identified as a portrait of the artist Onchi Koshiro, this work completes a trio of depictions honoring Sekino's greatest influence. The limited-edition, artist-printed nature of the work ensures lasting collectibility. Expect to pay $500-$1,500, with condition and edition number affecting the final price.
A 1956 woodblock portrait of the printmaker and poet Onchi Kōshirō (1891–1955) — made the year after Onchi's death, suggesting this may function as a commemorative image. Sekino had been Onchi's student and was among the small circle who would carry his mentor's sosaku-hanga vision forward. The title "Portrait of the Artist" gives this print a dual reference: it is a portrait of Onchi, and it is also a portrait of what Sekino understood the word "artist" to mean.
