A 1948 woodblock in ink and color on paper depicting a child by the sea — one of Sekino's earliest treatments of the childhood-at-the-coast subject that would also appear in his "Child of the Sea" from 1940. The 1948 version, made in the immediate postwar period, carries a different emotional charge than the prewar work: the sea still present as a source of wonder and freedom, but now also a space associated with the war's losses.
