Description
The station of Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, which became one of postwar Japan's most significant industrial centers — its chemical plants and oil refineries visible at night as a landscape of flame and electric light. Sekino's night view of the Yokkaichi industrial complex is among the most contemporary of his Tokaido station images, confronting the route's forty-third station as it existed in the high-growth economic miracle rather than as a heritage site or scenic subject.
