Description
Butterflies appear throughout Kawano's work as symbols of transformation and fleeting beauty, subjects well suited to the sosaku-hanga principle of capturing ephemeral life through the permanence of carved wood and pigment. This version from his butterfly series presents the insects with stylized wings rendered in flat blocks of color, each wing pattern simplified into a bold graphic element. The composition balances decorative appeal with the directness of Kawano's self-carved line.
