Description
The Mai Ogi — or fan dance — is among the most refined and formally demanding of classical Japanese dances, and Kawano approached it as one of his signature subjects. The dancer holds her folded fan in a pose of studied elegance, her kimono falling in carefully carved cascades of line and color. The limited edition designation suggests this was among his more formally distributed works, printed in a controlled run for the collector market that had grown around his figure prints in Japan and abroad.
