Description
A third impression variant of the Quiet Rain composition, this print belongs to the substantial body of evidence that Quiet Rain was one of Kawano's most commercially successful subjects during his career. The figure's posture and the rain setting likely remain consistent with other variants, while coloristic choices may distinguish this impression. In [sosaku-hanga](/glossary/sosaku-hanga) practice, Kawano mixed his own pigments and applied them manually, meaning the same carved blocks could yield visually distinct results depending on color selection. The rain motif, with its potential for diagonal line elements and atmospheric [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradation, suited Kawano's expressive carving vocabulary.
