Pathos

*Pathos* (2014), a monoprint and mixed media work by Karen Kunc, is a two-panel abstract composition dominated by blue tones ranging from pale sky blue to deep near-black indigo. A dense cluster of irregular, cell-like or pebble-like ovoid shapes fills the lower-center of both panels, rendered in mottled grey-blue and dark brown with visible wood-grain texture, punctuated by scattered solid cerulean ovals and small white outlined rings. The lower right corner introduces a band of coral-orange circular forms breaking from the blue palette, while the upper portion of each panel is a lighter, more atmospheric wash marked by faint dots and a single small red mark near the top edge.
