Description

Bay (2011), a woodcut by Karen Kunc in watercolor and wax, is a horizontal abstract composition built from dense fields of small white ovals over bands of blue, teal, gold, and lavender. Undulating dark-outlined forms curve in from the top and bottom edges toward the center, framing a red-outlined oval that encloses a paler, dotted blue-gray field, with a few small black droplet shapes scattered near the top and bottom. The overall palette and rhythm of repeating cell-like ovals create a fluid, aquatic mood.
