Description

A wide horizontal composition built from two large lens-shaped forms pinched together at the center, their outlines drawn in fine dark-blue ridged lines like contour striations. The left form is filled with overlapping orange and rust-red ovals over a cross-hatched grid, while the right form holds paler gold and cream ovals on a lighter ground; teal-green bands curve along the top and bottom edges, and a few small black ovals punctuate the lower border. Karen Kunc's 2011 woodcut "Swell," worked in mokuhanga woodblock, watercolor, and wax, sets these warm cellular clusters against a cream background in a symmetrical, undulating arrangement.
