Spring Scent

"Spring Scent," a 2017 mezzotint by Katsunori Hamanishi, depicts a rolling green field or hillside rendered in dense, textured clusters of dark emerald tone against a near-black night sky. Faint striated lines curve across the upper slope suggesting furrows or terraced rows, while pale gold clouds or mist drift along the lower edge of the composition. Vertical columns of Japanese calligraphic text run down the right side of the image, and the overall palette is limited to deep green, black, and touches of gold and white.
