FUZUKI (July)

"Fuzuki" is the classical name for the seventh lunar month (roughly July), the height of Japanese summer, a season of festivals, heat, and the particular excitement of the year's midpoint. Nishijima renders this summer moment through a traditional townscape scene that captures the season's specific qualities: perhaps a festival preparation, or simply the characteristic activity and light of a summer month rendered with his usual architectural precision combined with seasonal atmospheric attunement.
