Description
"Matsurinohi" — festival day — depicts a traditional Japanese community gathered for one of the seasonal matsuri that structured the rhythm of life throughout the year. Nishijima renders the festival not through its processional spectacle but through the architectural setting and crowd — the decorated streets, the temporary stalls, the festive lanterns and signage — capturing the way a festival transforms ordinary space into celebratory space without erasing the underlying character of the town.
