YUUGUMO (cloud in the evening)
Description
"Yuugumo" — cloud in the evening, a variant rendering of the evening cloud subject — returns to one of Nishijima's characteristic atmospheric themes: the specific drama of cloud formations in the evening sky. This second evening cloud print may depict a different cloud type, a different season's particular evening atmosphere, or a different architectural setting below the dramatic sky. His multiple treatments of similar atmospheric subjects reflect the traditional Japanese aesthetic interest in subtle variation within repeated theme.
