Description
The right sheet of a [triptych](/glossary/triptych) showing a night scene at the Tsukiji breakwater. As the opening panel of the composition, it likely introduces the viewer to the waterfront setting, possibly depicting figures arriving at the embankment — fishermen, night workers, or pleasure-seekers moving through a low-lit urban landscape. The night sky and water are rendered in deep blue-black tones, with the stone nami-yoke (wave barrier) providing a strong horizontal structure. Boats and rigging may appear in silhouette against a moonlit sky. Kyosai's characteristic confident brushwork, translated into the woodblock medium, would give the figures animated, precise postures even in abbreviated form. The right sheet establishes spatial orientation for the triptych as a whole.
