A harimaze print — a format in which multiple smaller images are arranged on a single large sheet like a collage — presenting a compilation of Kyosai's subjects across different scales and genres. Harimaze were popular partly because they offered collectors multiple images for the price of one, and partly because the arrangement itself became a compositional challenge: how to place disparate images in relation to one another so the whole sheet achieves visual coherence. Kyosai's version would demonstrate his mastery of both micro and macro compositional scale.
