Description
A print album or collection presenting multiple works in a bound format, allowing Kyosai's sketches and finished compositions to be experienced as a curated sequence rather than as individual sheets. Albums were an important format in Meiji-era printmaking, giving artists control over the context in which their work was encountered and allowing for the kind of sustained aesthetic experience that individual prints could not provide. Kyosai's albums are among the best-documented records of his artistic range.
