Description
A stout warrior in blue-laced armor and a white headband sits on a bench, grimacing as he grips a red-sheathed sword, while a kneeling woman in a brown robe offers him a cup from a tray set on a low table; a spotted dog barks up at him from the floor. To the right, a bald man in a pale blue floral robe holds a folding fan and looks upward with mouth open, standing beside a crouching figure in blue holding a round shield and sword, near a blossoming cherry tree rendered in white, pink, and grey ink. The scene is painted in muted tones of tan, indigo, and grey with columns of Japanese calligraphy and red seal stamps at the edges. Kawanabe Kyosai, 1865, print.
