Description
A print combining attributions to both Kawanabe Kyosai and Utagawa Toyokuni III (Kunisada) — suggesting either a collaborative work between the two artists, or a print whose attribution has been disputed or reassigned by scholars. Collaborative prints between major artists were not uncommon in the Meiji era, and the combination of Kyosai's wild energy with Toyokuni III's more conventional bijin-ga tradition would produce interesting results. The work offers insight into the complex networks of artistic collaboration and rivalry that defined the Meiji print world.
