URGE Wine Red is one of the colorway variants from the 2020 URGE portfolio, replacing other plates' green, blue, or pastel grounds with a deep wine-red field that shifts the print's tonal register. The figure occupies the composition in one of the series' characteristic seated or hand-to-face poses; against the wine-red background, contours read as silhouettes with reduced internal contrast. Multi-screen silkscreen on heavyweight paper produces the flat color planes and crisp edges that recur across the portfolio. Saturated single-color grounds have appeared throughout KAWS's print practice since the 2000s, used to draw attention away from background detail and concentrate it on figure and gesture. The 2020 URGE portfolio has held a sustained presence in the East Asian collector market, particularly Japan, where his late-1990s Bounty Hunter and Original Fake collaborations established the foundation for his ongoing visibility in the region.
