Description
A forest growing on a small island within a lake — a landscape subject of unusual compositional elegance, the trees rising from the water and their forms reflected in its surface. Island forests within lakes were a subject associated with the ornamental lake gardens of Japanese aristocratic culture, the island as a composed element of the garden design. Kimura's contemporary treatment renders this subject with graphic simplification, the tree forms rising above the flat mirror of the surrounding water.
